Since 2015, Project PINK BLUE has been hosting World Cancer Day events; an initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). 2023 is no exception as we would be hosting the largest WORLD CANCER DAY Walk, Race, Cycle, Skate & Marathon against Cancer in Africa. 5km Walk, 10km Race, 20km Ride, 5km Skate, 50km Cycle, and Marathon against Cancer. This event comprises different activities like n?etworking, aerobics, exhibitions, dance, games, and good music all of which aim to create cancer awareness. Free Breast, Cervical & Prostate Cancer Screenings will also be available to everyone. The official hashtag for this year's campaign includes #?CloseTheCareGap #Chokecancer #WorldCancerDay
The devastating effects of cancer are far-reaching on individuals and households. In Nigeria, 78,899 people died of cancer in 2020. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Nigeria, with an estimated 28,380 new cases and 14,274 deaths in 2020 [Global Cancer Observatory]. Nigerians also have one of the world's poorest 5-year cancer survival rates. Many poor women die of breast cancer leaving their children and their family behind. We are soliciting funds from well-meaning Nigerians to help increase cancer awareness via this campaign. We need funds to achieve our goals for the 2023 World Cancer Day campaign. Breast Cancer Screening for 5000 people, Cervical Cancer Screening for 5000 people, Prostate Cancer Screening, for 5000 people. Advocacy visits to some designated cancer centers and specialist hospitals. Symposium and film screening in Abuja. Project PINK BLUE intends to drive comprehensive cancer treatment for some indigent cancer patients in Abuja and also provide psychological support to individual cancer patients. Funds will also be needed to drive the media campaign of this project to meet key stakeholders in Nigeria.
This campaign will provide cancer prevention information, cervical cancer screenings, cervical treatment (cryotherapy), clinical breast examination, and mammogram, create awareness and engage the community to take action against cancer. Over 5000 people will be mobilized to walk for 5km in commemoration of World Cancer Day; after the walk, our nurses, doctors, and volunteers will provide cancer screenings. Women diagnosed with abnormalities will be navigated for further diagnosis and treatment 1 CANCER ADVOCACY: a. Cancer Awareness Materials b. Cervical Cancer Screening. c. Breast Cancer Screening. d.
