Annual campaign to mobilise resources (financial and material) to support less privileged ...
My story started in Lagos State where I was born and raised up. While growing up, I was exposed to computer and was taught computer and its accessories in my primary school. So, I developed keen interest in technology at a tender age. After my secondary school, in the bid to acquire more knowledge in computer, I went to computer school in 2009/2010 where I was certified in Microsoft office suite and few other software packages.
So, during my undergraduate, l learnt laws on cybercrime and I have been so curious on how fraud is being perpetuated online. This fuelled my passion to advanced my knowledge in cybercrime law, so I took educative online course in Fintech Law and Policy at the Duke University on Coursera in 2020. This course gave me more insight into diverse topics in fintech, law and policy making. Weeks later, I got an employment with a telecommunication company as the HR/Legal Officer. The knowledge I acquired while studying the course aided me in drafting the data protection and privacy policy of my employer subsidiary Company’s Web and Mobile Apps.
For a while now, I’ve spent my time learning and researching about cyber law and how to curb cybercrime. Cyber crime is a global phenomenon; this kind of crime has the serious potential for severe impact on our lives, society, and economy because our society is an information society where communication takes place in cyberspace. Enhancing cyber security and protecting critical information infrastructures are essential to nation’s security and economic well-being. The rising rate of cybercrime in Nigeria is quite alarming, and the negative impact on the socio-economy of the country is highly disturbing. In a bid to learn more about cyber law and be more effective in curbing the rising rate of cybercrime, I applied to Swansea University to pursue my law program in LegalTech.
Crowdfunding was never a consideration for me, because, I’ve always love to work and save up for whatever I need. I had hoped on savings, scholarships, and loans. But then, the organisations giving loans were requesting collateral for loan that I did not have. My parents would have helped me but my Father is late and my mother can’t afford to fund me.
This opportunity would slip from right under my nose if I don’t do anything. So, I decided to opt-in for crowdfunding my tuition fee. This fund would enable me pay for my tuition fee and also, afford me the opportunity to be well grounded in LegalTech in order to curb the rising rate of this cybercrime in our society.
So, it’s on this note, I’m asking for support to go to school this September.
