What are you raising money for?

We are raising funds to support the construction of a block of classroom for pupils in Tapma primary school kpambo, Taraba state. Every child deserves to learn in a safe and conducive environment regardless of their geographical location or socioeconomic status. The learning condition in Tapma primary school is poor, as learners are learning under the trees, they lack access to infrastructure. Both teachers and pupils are exposed to harsh conditions for learning and teaching. There are no chalk boards; teachers write on the ground, all this contributes to the poor learning outcome for the pupils. The school is located at a remote village far from town with a population of over 80 children. The children at Tapma and its environ deserves a proper classroom equipped with relevant learning materials to aid learning. Nigeria has the highest number of out of school children, with an increasing number of school dropout and poor retention rates in schools. We fear that students in Tapma primary school are also at a high risk of dropping out of school. The learning conditions are demotivating factors for learners to continue coming and also for teachers to travel long distance to teach pupils without relevant resources to aid learning.

Why are you raising the funds?

The reason for fundraising for the construction of the block of classroom for Tapma primary school is to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for the students. The provision of the classroom will motivate more students to school and also support teachers to become more effective in teaching the pupils. A school building for this remote community is a development for the entire village; children can also have the opportunity to pursue their dreams for a better future through education. The building will also reduce the rate of teacher’s absenteeism and also promote learning among students. Also it will also reduce the rate of early marriage among the girl child in the village, with the completion of primary school education gives higher chance of continuity into secondary school rather than marriage for the girl child. The school can also serve for other purposes including health outreaches for the villages or vaccination centers.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS: we will be leveraging local materials from the community but there are materials that cannot be source for within the village, hence we need to purchase them. These materials include Bag of cements, nails, iron rods, roofing sheets, etc SERVICE PAYMENT: we are working in collaboration with community members, man labor will be free as community members will be volunteering for the project. We are expected to pay for skilled labor. DESKS AND CHAIRS: we will be equipping each classroom with adequate desks and chairs, the planks and nails needed for this will be purchased and also the carpenters will be paid for their services PROVISION OF RELEVANT MATERIALS: we will also be providing the school at completion relevant materials for learning. This will include textbooks, work book and other materials that will support teachers and also pupils.
