My name is Adedeji Omobolanle Afolasade, I recently applied as a speaker at the African youth SDG summit, scheduled for November 1st and 2nd, 2017 at the Kofi Annan peacekeeping training center, Teshie-Accra Ghana. Official arrival is 31st October and departure is 3rd November,2017. I am a fashion designer and fashion instructor, I am the Creative Director and fashion instructor at Whoopy Yun Clothings in Ibadan, Nigeria.  I teach young and indigent people fashion for free, there is an African proverbs that says "Don't give me fish to eat, but teach me how to fish", I believe that empowerment through skills acquisition,  especially for young ones who didnt have formal education, is a way to reduce extreme poverty and social exclusion in Africa. In view of these, we are doing all we can to empower youths. Whoopy Yun Clothings is in collaboration with Oyo state government, through the office of the Special Adviser to the Oyo state Governor on education, we train secondary school students who have interest in fashion, we train them for free. At Whoopy Yun Clothings, we also try to rehabilitate young girls who are into cross-generational relationship with older men popularly known "sugardaddy" and "runs", by empowering them through skills acquisition in fashion.
I am also the Executive Associate (volunteer) for the Organization for Youth Empowerment and Societal Restructuring Initiative (OYESRI), OYESRI is a non govermental organization and not for profit organization established in Nigeria,  principally aimed at strengthening the consciousness of the individuals in the society towards business creation and leadership mentoring, which is instrumental for political and economic prosperity and social cultural integration in Nigeria and Africa at large. The aim of OYESRI is to sensitize the mind of the youth towards capacity building for sustainable development
I volunteered with OYESRI because the organization's objective align with my initiative of solving identified community problem which is poverty, I volunteered because I want to be part of a team who worked towards eradication of poverty by empowering people through different skills acquisition, with focus on young people. At OYESRI I am the executive associate in charge of Awakening Youth Leardeship Role (AYLR) program and Justice for All (JFA) program.
Justice For All (JFA) is change processes that will contribute to the realization of the intention of the United Nations Universal Declaration for Human Rights in policy as well as in practice among youths in Nigeria. JFA is aimed at spreading the awareness on human rights as declared by United Nations Universal Declaration for Human Rights among young men and women in Nigeria. Justice for All is designed to structure the mind of the young men and women within the age of 23 - 32 towards protecting and respecting human rights and become valuable advocates for peace and tolerance. Justice for All primary goals is to motivate youth’s passion on key issues that affect their own human rights by equipping youths with tools, knowledge and encourage them to be the agent of peace maker within their community by promoting peace and tolerance, democratic and human rights culture and provide opportunity for pro-human rights activism among youths in Nigeria.
Awakening Youth on Leadership Role. (AYLR) is change processes specifically conceived to sensitizing youths within the age of 14 - 18 on leadership role modeling, and self-development awareness with relevance to HIV/AIDS. Under this program, we sensitize the rising leaders on leadership thinking and mentoring and the impact of HIV/AIDS on leadership development and how today’s rising leaders should pay special attention to this epidemic.  AYLR primary goals is to prepare youth for effective leadership skills through a series of activities that promote peace and tolerance among their peers, development of critical thinking, communication and organizational skills and healthy self-esteem. And the program objective is to promote a positive youth leadership development and a good democratic and human rights culture among young people in Nigeria.
To have a successful implementation of AYLR and JFA projects, our organization would collaborate with other NGO’s on Youth Development, HIV/AIDS resource centers, Religious Institutions, Traditional Institutions, International/Local Organizations on Human Rights, Office of the Oyo State Governor, Office of the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Oyo state commissioner for youth and sports, Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Local government’s office within Ibadan city and other Private Organizations, all these and many more are what I work on to ensure  planning and  implementation, so that the organization can have a successful programs.
I have worked with Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) and also with Society for Family Health (SFH) as Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant and Monitoring and Evaluation officer respectively.
