What are you raising money for?

The Street Kids to School program is run by The Candlelight Foundation and it provides scholarships to boys and girls. We have taken it a step further to provide shelter for at risk boys in society. These include homeless boys and boys in non-conducive homes. We have secured a space that can house 15 boys comfortably and we are seeking funding to furnish the space we have secured for this cause. Donations can be cash or kind. We welcome you to visit our location at 56 Adebola Street, Surulere, Lagos. We also provide free meals for anyone that needs it 3 times a week from that location. Why are you raising the funds?

What were the best things about your teenage years? That time of blissful dreams and the unrelenting feeling that you can do anything and be anybody. You knew it all and couldn't wait to be grown to execute! While you reminisce, did you notice that most of the troubles you may have faced as a teenager didn't include lack of a bed, or food, electricity to do your homework, bathrooms, clean water, a school that gave a possibility of a future, clothes on your back, community and comradery? Your skin did not break out from the water you drank and you didn't worry about your safety. And if you did experience these inadequacies, imagine how it would have been if you didn't. I'm asking that you remember those scenarios and the impact to your adult life and help 15 at risk boys experience a better childhood with education, adequate food, exposure to science and art, social etiquette and moral soundness, help them have the basic foundation for a better future. The Candlelight Foundation's Street Kid To School program takes boys out of their current situation of abject poverty, malnutrition, inadequate education and provides them with scholarships. In addition to the scholarships, we have secured a building that will shelter and cater to 15 at risk boys; catering to their every need including regular meals, access to education, clean water, edutainment, field trips, moral grooming, community and so much more. All we need now..... Is furniture!!!!

What will the funds raised help achieve?

These funds will help us furnish our space that we have leased for the next 5 years! It will provide beds, linen, shoes that fit, electricity, access to information, access to imagination, creativity and moral etiquette. it will provide these boys a home. One that will help them do homework, study without distractions, eat without worrying that it will finish, teach them the importance of routines; the impact of cause and effect and the effects of excellence. We will be using the funds to purchase the following: Beds Mattresses Pillows Lockers Linen - Sheets, towels, pillowcases, blankets Window blinds Generator Fridge/Freezer TV Internet Modem Computers Microwave Projector Fans Your donations will give them the foundations necessary for a productive future!!
