The International Day of the Boy-Child is celebrated every year on May 18th. Every year since our inception, we plan a series of activities (including symposiums, walks, school outreaches, and community outreaches) to celebrate it. This year, we want to take things some steps further and help boys and young men understand that they matter. This year's event will feature the Ibadan Boys Conference (for 10 secondary schools), an oratory competition (for secondary school boys), an essay competition (for male undergraduate students), and online campaigns to drive narratives about the boy-child in society. To achieve this, we've turned to you to help us show that the IDBC is important and help us influence corporate organizations and government bodies to take it more seriously in the future.
We are raising funds because Boys Without Borders Nigeria is largely funded by the dues of its volunteers. Prior to this time, we have leaned on our personal funds and donations from relatives to run our campaigns. However, this is a capital-intensive, yet vital campaign that we need to look outwards for. We are doing this because: - it will help us create more social awareness about the International Day of the Boy-child - Together with you (members of the public), we can push the hands of corporate bodies and government organizations to take this day more seriously - We can prove to boys that they matter and that society cares about them
The funds raised will help us cater to over 200 boys (food and drinks), organize the Ibadan Boys Conference (in commemoration of IDBC 2024), give branded merch to attendees, and drive online campaigns. Our projections are that we will reach 200 boys directly and over 5, 000 will indirectly know and learn about the International Day of the Boy-child (through our collaboration with 10 secondary schools). Aside from the boys, our mission at Boys Without Borders is bi-directional, as we believe that boys do not grow in a vacuum and are heavily influenced by their relationships with other members of society. Through the awareness campaigns of this year's International Day of the Boy-child, we aim to orientate members of society about the needs of the boy-child, our collective contributions to the type of men we have, and our responsibility to raise functional men in society.
