Help Out-of-School Girls Return to Education

What are you raising money for?

Across underserved communities in Abuja and surrounding areas, many girls remain out of school due to poverty and lack of access to basic educational resources. Families facing financial hardship are often unable to afford essential school requirements such as fees, uniforms, books, and school bags. As a result, many girls are unable to enroll or are forced to drop out, increasing their vulnerability to early marriage, child labour, and long-term economic dependency. Through community engagement and field assessments conducted by the Inclusive Development for Women Foundation (IDWF), it has become evident that financial barriers are a primary reason why girls are excluded from education. Even minimal support can make a significant difference in helping a girl return to school. The Girls Rise Initiative – Operation Back-to-School is designed to directly address this challenge by providing school fees and essential school kits to out-of-school girls, enabling them to access education and remain in school. Priority will be given to girls from low-income and displaced communities to ensure that support reaches the most vulnerable.

Why are you raising the funds?

The need for this intervention is urgent. Many families in underserved communities are struggling to meet their basic daily needs and are therefore unable to prioritise education due to severe financial constraints. As a result, girls are disproportionately affected, often being the first to be withdrawn from school when resources are limited. Without immediate support, a growing number of girls will remain out of school, exposing them to risks such as early marriage, child labour, and long-term economic dependency. This not only limits their personal development but also reinforces cycles of poverty and inequality within families and communities. At this critical stage, funding is required to remove the direct financial barriers preventing girls from accessing education. Providing timely support will enable these girls to return to school, continue their learning, and build a foundation for a more secure and independent future.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

The funds raised will provide direct educational support to out-of-school girls by covering school fees and supplying essential school kits required for enrollment and active participation in school. These kits will include uniforms, school bags, books, and writing materials, ensuring that beneficiaries have the basic resources needed to learn effectively. Each beneficiary will receive targeted support designed to enable an immediate and smooth return to school. This intervention will help improve enrollment rates, reduce dropout levels, and encourage consistent school attendance among vulnerable girls. Beyond access, this support will create opportunities for continuous learning, personal development, and improved academic outcomes. By supporting this initiative, donors will play a vital role in empowering girls with the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a more secure, independent, and productive future.
