APPEAL FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

I am Roland Olasunkanmi Adeleke. I met my wife, Banke in 2005, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State and I can never forget the details of the events of the 10th of September 2006 when she agreed to be my lover, wife and playmate for life.

Everyday has the same 24 hours but different series of events. I was an Electrical/Electronic Engineering student of Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti with an enthusiasm for a beautiful future both as an Elect/Elect soon-to-be graduate and a partner to my lovely Adebanke.

I was in my usual routine on the 5th of June, 2009 when I received a call that my Banke was involved in a ghastly motor accident on the Ore/Lagos expressway while on her way to get Post-JAMB past questions to prepare for her forthcoming examination. I felt blood rush into my brain as I imagined all manners of possibilities while on the phone. I felt my life ripped off me because I thought that I had lost my Banke.

Alas! There she was, breathing fine; many thanks to God and the medical practitioners that attended to her. Just while I was thanking God that she was still breathing, I got the shock of my life. I was informed that her lower limb was severely damaged with neuro-vascular injury and massive tissue loss, which led to her above-the-knee amputation of the left lower limb and debridement with external fixation of the right lower limb. All this medical jargons left her with no left leg and the thought of having her on the wheelchair for the rest of her life was too much of a nightmare for me.

Since the first surgery, she has had five other orthopedics and plastic surgeries which includes debridement, open reduction and internal fixation with interlocking nail on right femur and tibia and skin grafting of right leg. Again, medical stories with new untold experiences and financial pressures.

I was now a 200 level Physics student of Obafemi Awolowo University (Great Ife) when this incident happened and I had to leave school immediately to be with her. She was in the hospital for seven months. Throughout this period, her family and I were sleeping in the cold; we were not allowed to sleep in the ward and I could not afford the lodge. After she was discharged from Federal Medical Centre, Owo on 29th December 2009, the journey has been rough and tough.

My wifes leg was amputated while we were in relationship, but I couldnt leave her despite the amputation, I still married her because I loved her (I still do) and I am committed to her and because I promised her on the hospital bed not to forsake her. Three years after the accident, my family and I went to her family and we received the blessings of both parents. God has blessed us with two beautiful and lovely daughters.

She has been on the wheelchair for the past twelve years now. And for these twelve years, I have made great sacrifices to stay by her and forgoing my goals and academic pursuits after my first degree. I carry her to the toilet, help her with potty, discard the excreta, run several errands, do house chores and provide for the family. I have been taking our daughters to the hospital for immunization and other medical attentions from when they were a day old.

Singlehandedly taking care of our daughters and my wife, who can practically do nothing for herself, without any assistance is overwhelming, both physically and financially. Since I left school nine years ago, I have not been able to secure any employment; I have been doing one petty job to another to take care of my familys needs, but the proceeds from the petty jobs are no longer enough to take care of my family needs, considering the current economic situation in Nigeria.

I am in dire need of the assistance of kind-hearted Nigerians for prosthesis for my wife to support the second leg and other proper medical attentions. With this, she will be able to do few things by and for herself without depending on me for everything, while I attend to our daughters and other family needs. I also solicit financial assistance as well as a business for her to get engaged in order to avoid loneliness and depression.

My wife and I with our daughters will be forever grateful to Nigeria and philanthropic Nigerians for their assistance.

Roland Olasunkanmi Adeleke.
