My name is Helen, and I have been battling sickle cell anemia my entire life. Over the years, repeated sickle cell crises have caused avascular necrosis (AVN) in my hips, leading to severe bone deformities and excruciating pain. In May 2023, I underwent a left total hip replacement (costing N6 million), which was successful. in November 2023, I had a right hip replacement, but within two weeks, I suffered a periprosthetic fracture. A revision surgery was attempted, but it also failed, leaving me in constant pain and immobility. Now, my best chance at a successful outcome is a 3D-customized hip replacement, which will ensure a proper fit for my unique bone structure. This procedure, including a 3D acetabular shell, cemented cup liner, long stem implant, surgery, hospital stay, drugs and physiotherapy, is estimated to cost N25 million.
Living with sickle cell anemia has been a tough battle, but I have always fought to live a full life. Losing my father as a child meant facing medical challenges alone, but I never gave up. Despite two failed surgeries, I remain hopeful. The repeated fractures and failed revisions have left me unable to walk unaided, work, or live independently. My doctors have advised that a customized 3D hip replacement is my only viable option for mobility and a pain-free life. However, the cost is beyond what I can afford. I have already spent N17 million on previous surgeries, draining my savings and resources. I am reaching out for help because I believe in the kindness of people like you. With your support, I can finally get the right treatment and regain my ability to walk unaided. No amount is too small - every donation brings me closer to a pain-free future.
Your generosity will go directly towards and cover the cost of: > 3D-customized acetabular shell & cemented cup liner - ensuring a precise long-lasting fit that reduces the risk of another failure. > Hip replacement surgery with a long-stem implant > Hospitalization, post-op care, and medications - to prevent complications > Physiotherapy and rehabilitation - helping me regain strength and mobility This surgery is my last hope of walking, regaining my independence, and living a life free from unbearable pain. Your support - whether through donations. sharing this campaign, or prayers - means the world to me. Thank you for being part of my journey to healing.
