What are you raising money for?

I am raising funds to urgently bring my younger sister, Shefiyat Abiola Adegbite, back home to Nigeria after nearly two years of being trafficked to Libya. Shefiyat was taken through irregular migration routes and has since endured severe hardship, exploitation, deteriorating health, and emotional trauma. Her living conditions are unsafe, and her physical and mental well-being continue to worsen. She has repeatedly expressed her desire to return home to her four children and family, but without immediate financial support, her safe repatriation is not possible. Efforts to secure assistance through conventional channels such as IOM Libya and IOM Nigeria have been slow, and her current condition requires urgent intervention. Raising these funds will allow us to facilitate her safe extraction from her traffickers, ensure she receives necessary medical attention, and cover the logistics involved in coordinating her travel back to Nigeria. This campaign is a call for compassionate support from friends, colleagues, and members of the public who believe in protecting vulnerable individuals and reuniting families torn apart by trafficking. Every contribution will directly support the emergency steps required to save her life and restore her safety and dignity. Your generosity will help bring Shefiyat home this December, back to her four children, her family, and the care she desperately needs.

Why are you raising the funds?

I am raising these funds because my younger sister, Shefiyat Abiola Adegbite, is in urgent and life-threatening danger in Libya. She was trafficked nearly two years ago and has endured exploitation, unsafe living conditions, and severe physical and emotional decline. Her health is deteriorating rapidly, and she is no longer able to cope with the harsh conditions she has been forced to live in. At this stage, the situation requires immediate intervention. Although I have reached out to the appropriate authorities—including IOM Nigeria, IOM Libya, and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM)—the response has been slow due to long waiting lists, operational delays, and the extremely high number of stranded migrants seeking repatriation. Because these official channels may not act quickly enough to protect her in her current condition, urgent fundraising has become necessary. The funds will help secure her immediate extraction from the dangerous environment where she is held, ensure she receives emergency medical care, and cover the logistics required to bring her safely back to Nigeria. Without timely financial assistance, my sister may remain trapped in conditions that pose a serious risk to her life. Bringing her home now is critical not only for her survival but also for reuniting her with her four children, who have been without their mother for nearly two years. Your support will directly contribute to saving her life and restoring her dignity.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

The funds raised will provide the urgent and practical support needed to bring Shefiyat Abiola Adegbite safely back to Nigeria after nearly two years of being trafficked and stranded in Libya. Because official repatriation channels such as IOM and NiDCOM are overwhelmed with long waiting lists, the funds will allow us to take immediate, lawful steps to secure her extraction from the unsafe environment where she is being held. First, the funds will be used to coordinate safe movement from her current location to a protected area or shelter managed by trusted contacts within the Nigerian community in Libya or humanitarian partners. This is essential to remove her from the reach of traffickers and prevent further harm. Second, the funds will cover emergency medical care, as her physical and mental health have deteriorated significantly. Access to proper treatment will stabilise her condition until she is safely returned. Third, the funds will support the logistics of her repatriation, including transport within Libya, documentation where necessary, and her eventual flight back to Nigeria. The impact of this support will be profound. It will save her life, end her suffering, and restore her safety and dignity. Most importantly, it will reunite her with her four children, who have been without their mother for nearly two years. Your contribution will directly help rescue a vulnerable Nigerian woman from danger and give her the chance to rebuild her life in the care of her family.
