Classrooms for 1,600 Displaced Children in IDPs

What are you raising money for?

We are currently confronted with a critical challenge arising from a significant surge in enrollment, with over 1,600 children now attending classes across two Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. Regrettably, the existing classroom infrastructure is no longer adequate to accommodate this growing population. Learning spaces have become severely overcrowded, with many children sharing limited seating, while others are compelled to sit on the floor during lessons. This situation not only constrains teachers’ ability to deliver effective instruction and individualized attention but also undermines the overall quality of education. Consequently, what should be a nurturing and supportive learning environment is increasingly becoming a barrier to the children’s academic development, despite their strong motivation to learn. In response to this urgent need, we propose the construction of two classroom blocks one in each camp each comprising three fully equipped classrooms. The estimated cost of constructing each block is N3,000,000, resulting in a total funding requirement of N6,000,000. The provision of these additional classrooms will substantially alleviate overcrowding and foster a safe, structured, and conducive learning environment. This intervention will enhance students’ concentration, improve teaching effectiveness, and ultimately lead to better educational outcomes. Most importantly, it will ensure that these vulnerable children continue to access the quality education they rightfully deserve.

Why are you raising the funds?

To address the current learning challenges, there is an urgent need to construct two (2) blocks of three (3) classrooms each—one block per camp. Each classroom block is estimated at a cost of N3,000,000, bringing the total project cost to N6,000,000. The provision of these classrooms will significantly reduce overcrowding, establish a safe and structured learning environment, and enhance both teaching effectiveness and student concentration. Ultimately, this will improve learning outcomes and restore a sense of dignity for the children. This initiative goes beyond infrastructure development. These classrooms represent a renewed opportunity for vulnerable children—a space for healing, growth, and the rebuilding of their future. Without adequate learning facilities, the progress achieved over the past five years is at serious risk of being lost.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

The funds raised will be directly invested in the construction of two well-equipped classroom blocks, each consisting of three classrooms, strategically located within the two IDP camps. By expanding the available learning spaces, this intervention will immediately address the issue of overcrowding, ensuring that children are no longer forced to sit in congested conditions or on the floor during lessons. With adequate classroom space, students will have improved seating arrangements and a more comfortable learning environment, which is essential for concentration and active participation. Teachers will also be better positioned to manage their classes effectively and provide individualized attention, thereby enhancing the overall quality of instruction. Beyond addressing physical space constraints, the project will create a structured and safe learning environment that supports both academic and emotional development.
