Building A New School For Makoko Children

What are you raising money for?

We are raising the sum of N10,000,000 to support the completion of a new school project in the Makoko waterfront community in Lagos state Nigeria. The amount raised is also expected to be used to equip the school with all the necessary amenities required to make the school fully functional and conducive for the children. This fundraiser is part of the bigger plan to ensure that every child born in this slum community is taken off the streets and into classrooms. There is currently a school in the community that can only accommodate 400 children at a time and this is not anyway enough to cater to the needs of all the children in the community.

Why are you raising the funds?

There are currently thousands of out of school children in the Makoko floating slum community who are in desperate need of education. I recently visited the community and observed the deplorable state of the education system and decided it was something that needed the collaborative efforts of kind hearted individuals to solve as the government is not taking this issue as a top priority. The Makoko community has a free school that can only accommodate 400 children at a time and they are in the process of building a new school that can accommodate an additional 400 children and I am doing this to support their dreams of educating every child in their community

What will the funds raised help achieve?

All funds raised will be used to complete the new school that is being built in Makoko and to provide supplies to run the school. In the event that the funds raised exceed the target, the money will be used to support the daily running operations of the school. Additionally, multiple canoes will be purchased to transport the kids from their homes to school. Experienced and more qualified teachers will be hired and paid well enough to provide quality services. The children who are extremely indigent will be provided books and school uniforms as a means of encouraging the parents to send such kids to school.
