I am raising money for groceries and internet access, the two things standing between me and my next chance at work. After nearly two years of unemployment, I have reached a point where I can no longer cover even the basics on my own. Some weeks, it comes down to a choice between buying food or keeping my internet on so I can search and apply for jobs. I am asking for help because I have run out of savings, run out of favours to call in, and run out of ways to keep going alone. Any support, however small, would help me stay fed, stay connected, and keep fighting for a way back to stable work.
About two years ago, I lost my job, and since then, everything has changed. I wake up every day still hoping today will be the day something turns around: an interview, a callback, anything. But two years is a long time to hold onto hope while your savings disappear and the people you'd normally lean on have their own struggles too. At first, I thought it would be a matter of months. I updated my resume, reached out to old contacts, applied to every opening I could find. But months turned into a year, and a year turned into two, and the weight of it has only grown heavier. Bills don't pause because you are unemployed. Hunger doesn't wait for a callback. Some days, I have to choose between topping up data to apply for jobs online and buying food for the day. It's a choice no one should have to make. I have applied to more jobs than I can count, attended few interviews, and kept trying even when nothing came of it. Rejection after rejection wears you down, especially when you're also worried about your next meal. It is not easy to admit that I can't do this alone anymore. I am asking now because I have run out of other options, and because I still believe that with a little support, I can hold on long enough to get back on my feet.
Every contribution, no matter how small, goes directly toward food and internet access, the two things standing between me and my next opportunity. It means one less night wondering how I will eat tomorrow. It means I can keep applying, keep showing up, keep trying, without the constant fear of being cut off from the only tool I have left to find work. You may never know what your kindness meant to me, but I will carry it with me long after this chapter of my life is over. Thank you for reading this far, and thank you, truly, for anything you are able to give.
